A Source of Hope
The remote areas where your generous support enables us to serve are not isolated from challenging economic times. One island nation, where many of the locals earn their living as daily laborers on tea plantations, has been hit hard by the escalating prices of essential items. The economic margin for these individuals and their families is so thin that even one missed day of work can be devastating, causing them to go without food or shelter.
Seeing the sudden great need among their neighbors, two GFA pastors launched an effort to give four-month-old hens to families.
Distributing hens may not seem like the most obvious way to share God’s love. But the national missionaries who live and work alongside families and individuals in this remote part of the world understand the incredible impact the chickens can have—extending a hand to neighbors in need, all in the name of Jesus.
Each hen can lay up to 40 dozen eggs each year, providing the recipients with a regular source of nourishment, immediate economic relief and a sustainable income. Beyond this, the hens are a powerful tool in galvanizing the community. Recipients were encouraged to extend the support they received by sharing with other neighbors in need.
On the day the hens were distributed, a staff member of the Ministry of Agriculture advised recipients on how to properly feed, tend to and medicate the hens to keep them healthy. 119 families received hens and the medicine required to keep them healthy.
Recipients of the hens readily expressed their gratitude to the church for their assistance in a critical time.

“In the face of rising expenses, I want to acknowledge the positive impact of this initiative,” said Ruperta, a recipient, who also noted that the hens “offered a source of hope.”
Another recipient, Valen, said, “I am overjoyed by this thoughtful initiative and commit to caring for the hens for the greater good.”
